. What is PAYE and do I need it?

PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is HMRC’s system to collect Income Tax and National Insurance directly from employment earnings. If employees earn £116+ weekly, receive benefits, or get a pension, you must operate PAYE.

. How are PAYE deductions calculated?

Your payroll software uses HMRC tax codes and National Insurance category letters to calculate accurate deductions. These codes may change during the year to reflect circumstances like benefits or previous underpayment.

. How is PAYE reported to HMRC?

We submit Real Time Information (RTI) on or before every pay date. HMRC payments, including tax and NIC must be paid typically by the 22nd of each month or quarterly if eligible.

Employers must file P36, send P60s at year end, complete P11D returns for employee benefits, and ensure tax codes are accurately maintained.
